Weaponsmithing Leveling Guide – Updated for Patch 1.10

In New World, the Weaponsmithing crafting profession offers the ability to craft weapons, shields, and honing stones. For weapons, this includes swords, war hammers, great axes, and rapiers. For shields, this includes round shields, kite shields, and tower shields.

The leveling guide has been designed to utilize the lowest level items possible in each Tier of crafting. In many cases, it is possible to substitute lower-level resources with higher-quality ones. This will increase the minimum gear score possible from the items you craft but will not allow you to gain more profession experience.

The leveling guide has been built assuming you will gather all the raw resources yourself, however you’re free to purchase refined materials from the Trading Post to speed up your leveling experience. Just be aware that if you purchase refined materials at lower levels, but choose to gather higher level raw resources, you may not have the required refining profession skill. For example, if you buy all your Iron Ingot and Steel Ingot, you may not have the required smelting skill if you decide to gather Starmetal Ore for smelting into Starmetal Ingot.

Important Things to Note

I do not recommend trying to sell items you craft, it’s much better to just salvage them to regain some of the primary crafting materials.

The resources returned from salvaging and bonus procs from refining materials are not accounted for in the resources lists below. It’s much simpler to see the total resources you need and then you can adjust your gathering/purchasing based on what you receive from salvaging and refining bonus procs.

Importantly, you need to make sure the town you are in has the appropriate upgrades for the crafting stations you will need to use. This may mean you need to move to other towns to refine material or to craft Weaponsmithing items. It is also useful to pick a location where the town taxes on crafting are low so that you don’t deplete your gold pile unnecessarily.

Always use the highest tier of crafting reagents where possible. The Tier V crafting materials work out to be significantly cheaper because they increase the proc chance for additional materials to be refined:

  • Smelting – Obsidian Flux
  • Weaving – Wireweave
  • Leatherworking – Aged Tannin
  • Woodworking – Obsidian Sandpaper

Structure

The leveling guide will be split into four sections to simplify gathering materials. It will involve leveling 0-50, 50-100, 100-150, and 150-200. It is best to gather materials for each of the sections separately – you are unlikely to be able to store the resources you need for the 0-200 leveling process in one location anyway.

There is only one leveling guide included below as it’s now the fastest way to level since the changes in Patch 1.1.
